POOR WORK LIFE BALANCE?

POOR WORK LIFE BALANCE?

The consequences! Over 30 years of talking to people about their careers allows me to say with certainty that the root cause of most unhappiness at work is the lack of balance between work and family life.

Whilst most employers treat their employees well, some, as a friend of mine once said, "pay us for 8 hours a day, expect us to work for 12 and think they own us for 24 - and that's close to slavery!"

As Amanda Gardiner implied in a recent post, there's a big difference between working for a boss and working for a leader.

It's much easier to get your work life balance right if you are working for a leader rather than for a boss.

If any of this touches a nerve with you, then it's time to consult your mentor or your mastermind group in order to review your career and find answers to the following questions.

Q1. Where am I in my career?
Q2. Where will I end up if I stay on the same track as at present?
Q3. What would I prefer my career to lead me towards?
Q4. Is the answer to Q2 really consistent with the answer to Q3?
Q5. If the answer to Q4 is "no" what am I going to do about it?
