The psychologists Salovey and Mayer first used the term 'emotional intelligence' in 1990.
It is defined as the ability to monitor one's own and others' feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them and to use this information to guide one's thinking and action.
It is an essential prerequisite to effective communication.
Nearly 35 years later most of us still treat and talk to other people how we would ourselves prefer to be treated and spoken to - the Golden Rule.
Why not treat and talk to other people the way they would prefer to be treated and spoken to - what Dr Tony Alessandra calls the Platinum Rule®.
It's time to learn how to manage relationships professionally.
From my research it seems the 'Golden Rule' is given in the learned tracts of all the major religions.
Since the 'Platinum Rule' says to do the opposite of the 'Golden Rule' doesn't this make it anti-religion?
The answer is an emphatic 'no', because the 'Golden Rule' refers to our binary values such as honesty, integrity, faithfulness, loyalty, etc., whereas the 'Platinum Rule' is about character traits and personality.
