My Dad taught me a most valuable lesson when I was in my early teens.
I used to help him in the garden.
He would say, "I'll just have cup of tea and then we'll mow the lawn!"
But one day he changed his tune, "Michael, when you grow up, don't do what I do - don't procrastinate - it just wastes time - if you want to do something just do it.
"Don't have the reward before the task - use it as motivation to complete the task. You'll have a much greater feeling of satisfaction - and you'll always have a great lawn!"
These weren't his 'exact' words, but you get the gist.
Sadly he died when I was only 15 years old and on occasion, even at my advanced age, I often wonder what other gems of wisdom he would have passed on to me had we known each other as adults.
