A NAUTICAL CAREER LESSON.

A NAUTICAL CAREER LESSON.

A ship in harbour is safe: if the rudder is broken it doesn't matter because the ship isn't going anywhere.

However, 'not going anywhere' isn't what ships are designed to do!

Once the rudder is fixed, the captain doesn't say, "Right, let's go and sail aimlessly about and see where we end up."

No - the captain has a predefined destination, route and timeline all pre-planned well before the anchor is weighed.

Now apply this to your career and ask yourself a couple of questions.

1. Do you know where you are going?
2. Are you wandering about aimlessly?

If your answers are a 'yes' followed by a 'no' you are probably on track - nothing to worry about.

However, any other combination and maybe it's time to talk to your career coach.

Remember you weren't designed to wander about aimlessly: like all human beings you will be much happier if you have a goal, a destination, an objective to work on.

Perhaps it's time to define and pursue yours!
