Why is emotional intelligence (EQ) so important?

In 2011 a survey of over 2,000 hiring managers and HR professionals, found that 71% valued EQ over IQ and 75% said they were more likely to promote a high EQ employee.

In view of this, if you are in job search mode or seeking a promotion, it seems eminently sensible to work on your EQ. There are numerous characteristic behavioural traits of people with a high EQ. Of these traits, one of the most important indicators is the ability to communicate a message both succinctly and with enthusiasm.

“But,” I hear you say “l just don’t sound enthusiastic!” If this is you, think about a time when you were talking to a friend about your favourite hobby, book, holiday, boy band, film, opera - anything that you talk about excitedly.

Now work with your mentor to master the art of talking about your career and your achievements with the same excitement, passion and enthusiasm. hashtag#proteuscareermanagement
