Broadly speaking I agree with George S Patton's famous quote, "Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results," but I think there is an even more powerful word missing from his quote if we apply it to the world of work and careers - and the word is "why."
Think about the meanings of the verbs to direct, to manage and to lead. To direct is to tell people what to do, to manage is to invite people to do something, whereas to lead is to inspire and motivate people to do things.
In all three cases if you additionally tell people "why" they need to do it, then that's when you really get surprised by the amazing results they achieve. #proteuscareermanagement #inspiration #coaching #personaldevelopment
