The Pareto principle (also known as the 80/20 rule) states that, for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes.

And it seems that the job search process is one such event!

After more than 25 years helping people with their careers, it is clear that, for those professionals who are in job search mode, the most common challenge they face is that they have the wrong focus within their self marketing strategy.

They may have the right elements within their strategy but most of their effort, around 80%, goes into those elements, which although easy, produce the fewest results.

Our placement statistics over the last 5 years clearly illustrate this.  19% of new positions come from the 'Open Job Market:' applications to advertised jobs (8%), through head hunters (11%).  81% of results come from the 'Hidden Job Market:' direct approaches (55%), networking (17%), referrals (9%). #proteuscareermanagement #jobsearch
