We've all heard the expression, "It's not what you say or write, it's how you put it across that counts."
No matter how often we hear this message, as my wife says, "For most people it just goes in one ear and out both!"
It's fine if you are an experienced raconteur, a stand-up comedian, an actor, an experienced orator or an after-dinner speaker, but for most professional job seekers, 'knowing how to put it across' is not among their top transferable skills - it takes practice.
If you are working with a mentor, they'll say from their own experience, "I think you should express it like this, ...." or if working with a coach, they'll help you develop by asking, "How do you think you should express it?"
