Einstein said, “The only source of knowledge is experience.” However, we can learn from experience in two different ways.
1. You can learn through your own experiences.
2. You can learn by watching other people’s experiences.
You can either do something, get it wrong and learn from the mistake or watch someone else’s mistake and learn to do it correctly at your first attempt!
Both are equally valid ways to learn and certainly the second way is far less painful but the first is more effective, simply because the pain you experience, be it emotional, psychological or indeed even physical, becomes the motivator to get it right next time.
This is why, when we are in job search mode, it is critically important to go through a formal self-debrief process after each interview: a structured review of the experience gives us the knowledge we need to improve our performance next time. #proteuscareermanagement #interviewtechnique #experientiallearning
