Your thoughts are the seeds of your future: be careful which seeds you sow! If you sow the wrong seeds, you may find it very difficult to defend yourself against those challenging statements that interviewers often throw out?
Let me give you a few examples - I'll start with the negative thought and follow it with interviewer's statement.
1. I’m no good at interviews - you don’t seem very confident.
2. I'm too old - you don't seem to be very enthusiastic.
3. My background is too academic for most roles - I think you are over-qualified for this role.
4. I'm too young - you don't have a lot of experience.
5. I'm no good at talking to people - you seem to be a little shy.
6. I'm rubbish at sticking to budgets - your budgetry skills seem a little weak.
7. I'm always late for appointments - you weren't very punctual for today's meeting.
8. I'm a bit of a job hopper - you seem to find it difficult settling into a new role.
If you recognise any on these negative thoughts or you feel you would find it awkward to respond to the interviewer statements it is imperative that you change your self-talk! #proteuscareermanagement #interviewskills
