My take on Epictetus.

My take on Epictetus.

Epictetus claimed, “It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.”

Lou Holtz's take on it was, “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond to it.”

My own favourite is, “What’s important is not what happens to you, but how you respond to what happens to you.”

These in turn beg the question, “How should I respond to what happens to me?” And what happens to you for most of your adult life is covered by the phrase, ‘your working environment.’

It comes with your job: 1 a job title; 2 a job description; 3 a contract of employment with Ts&Cs; 4 not forgetting a description of your working environment. The fourth would be nice, but don’t hold your breath.

So, very importantly, if you don’t like the working environment in which you find yourself, you need to learn how to manage it proactively otherwise it WILL get you down. #proteuscareermanagement #attitude
