One of my mentors said, "My career was scythed off at the knees by the corporate world and I felt really sorry for myself until I met a former professional colleague selling The Big Issue.
"When it happens to you," he continued, "don’t let the bad stuff drag you down. When it happens to someone else, don’t jump into the pit with them for a pity party, don’t sympathise, don’t agree with their opinions, their views, their sentiments.
"Instead, understand their feelings and where the feelings come from and then lift them up to your level. Oh yes," he added, "and the colleague who was selling the Big Issue is I’m glad to say back in employment: all he needed was someone who believed in him, someone to help him restore his self confidence and self esteem - that was his Big Issue!"
