Here are three conversations from clients that I found recently in the Proteus archives. They certainly give food for thought about the wisdom of being prepared for the unexpected:

1 “I was poached by a friend from a very good job and now three years later he says he's decided to sell the company and the buyers are bringing in their own man so he’s making me redundant – nice friend – I couldn’t believe it!”

2 “I manage the relationship with just over 20 corporate clients for my company, but yesterday my boss decided to give my two best clients to one of my colleagues and I compete with her to get my annual bonus!”

3 "I'd been working for a good friend of mine for many years - he's the owner and Chairman and I'm his CEO - but a while back he stunned me and said he wanted to take a more active role in the company and there wasn't enough 'fat' to pay two large salaries so he asked me to clear my desk - just like that!" #beprepared #theunexpected #careermanagement #careerguidance #careerplanning #careeradvice
