One of the best quotes I’ve ever come across for getting myself out of a “poor me” mind set and helping me to start counting my blessings is: “I cried because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet.”
Sad to say, the provenance of the quote is much in doubt. Different sources say it originally came from India, China, Ancient Persia or even Ireland. I’ve also seen references attributing it to Helen Keller, Wally Lamb, Tolstoy, Mahatma Gandhi and Denis Waitley. Perhaps the safest path is to quote it as anonymous with source unknown.
